Location Matters — But Columbus Dispatch used faulty data

Citizens of Columbus, Please don’t be Shocked!

On Sunday March 11, the Columbus Dispatch ran a Home and Garden lead story about how the price per square foot is higher popular neighborhoods.

While there is little doubt about that being true, the actual data and numbers the paper used in the story are false.? For example, the paper said that Bexley’s average sale price in 2006 was $232,703. Well, the Dispatch used 43209 instead of using Bexley proper. That includes Eastmoor and Berwick homes.? The actual 2006 average sales price in Bexley was $302,595 — a difference of about 23%.? Don’t worry Bexley Homeowners, your homes values have not gone south.

Speaking of Eastmoor and Berwick, The Dispatch article stated that the average home there

? (and let’s face it, they are two different communities-both of which made the 2007 Columbus Monthly Best Places to Live Issue) sold for $85,487 in 2006.? Again, the data going in was flawed because the article used the 43227 zip code.? Neither Berwick nor Eastmoor extend into that zip code.? 43227 starts across James Road.? The real 2006 average home sale in these communities was $157,743.Is it really fair to lump German Village single family homes for sale in the last three years with the entire South Side (43206)?? Buyers wish they could approach German Village for $140,132 or even Victorian Village and Italian Village for $184,065.?

Don’t believe everything you read.? I’m sure the Columbus Dispatch meant well, but they used the wrong data.? ? If you want to know hard Columbus homes for sale data or Columbus homes sold data, ask a Realtor
