Clintonville Real Estate Owners & Stakeholders - Shape your Future Now

WhetstoneI am a big fan of planned urban growth.  I detest development for development’s sake and hate to see hodge podge buildings that are neither appropriate nor sustainable.  That said, I believe that the City of Columbus hasn’t done as good a job as they could have through the years purposely planning development throughout the city.

Area plans come from the development office with some regularity and often some degree of input from the associated community but they are far too often not the law of the land, and are pushed aside for easy money, development’s sake, or to please a developer.  These plans, in my opinion, need to be adhered to and referred to for all forthcoming development in any neighborhood.  Otherwise, why do we bother planning for development?

“Clintonville residents will have the opportunity to shape the future of the area in 2008, as the Clintonville Area Commission works with the city to create a comprehensive plan for the district.

Residents will be charged with finishing the plan by the end of the year and addressing urban design, land use, transportation and other development-related issues.

As part of the process of developing an area plan, the commission will nominate a working committee of stake holders in January, which will meet regularly to discuss the plan.

A series of public meetings will be held, as well, to give residents the opportunity to talk about the issues they feel are important to the community.

Clintonville Commission Chairman Chris Gawronski said formulating an area plan for Clintonville will give residents an opportunity to discuss concerns that come up regularly.

“Issues that I’ve heard before have to deal with traffic and development standards on High Street and the allocation of park space,” Gawronski said. “Those are issues that I’ve heard come up over the years with some regularity.”

While the city has identified some areas it would like residents to identify, Gawronski said which specific areas to address are entirely up to the residents.”

The first of four public meetings will be held 6:30 p.m. Jan. 16, though the location has not been announced. Additional public meetings are scheduled for April 23, June 25 and Sept. 24.
