"As a first-time homebuyer, I was nervous about the entire process. Step by step, Joe made it easy and fun. His expertise in the Columbus real estate market is a tremendous asset. He is highly recommended!" - Nicolette Horan
"I wanted to say thank you again, so much, for all your hard work. I know that you really put a lot of time into this transaction and I really, really appreciate it. I'm so happy I got the house and it all worked out and I just wanted to say thanks again, you did a great job and i really appreciate it. I will put that on the survey when they send it to me.
If there is ever anything I can do for you, please don't hesitate to give me a call. I will refer every single person I know to you. I'm going to go get my dog and we're going to sit on the floor of our new house and have a glass of champaign. Thanks a lot Joe" -- Michael Mamp
A bet is a bet - Moving from Columbus to Baton Rouge
January 9th, 2008 categories: Real Estate News
I lost the bet when Don Stern, a Baton Rouge Realtor with Coldwell Banker Mackey, and his LSU Tigers beat the Buckeyes Tuesday Night so here’s the payoff . . . .
Thanks to Joe Peffer and the LSU Tigers for giving me this opportunity to extol the virtues of the Greater Baton Rouge area.
In addition to being the home of the 2007 BCS College Football Champion LSU Tigers, the Greater Baton Rouge area is enjoying a robust real estate market. Average home prices continue to rise in both the new construction and resale market segments. The area is ripe with business opportunities, many created or enhanced by the GoZone Act put into effect after Hurricane Katrina. Following the hurricane, many people permanently relocated to the Greater Baton Rouge area from the coastal regions of the state.
Baton Rouge is the capital city of Louisiana and, since Katrina, is the largest city in the state and is located in East Baton Rouge parish. (A parish is the functional equivalent of a county in other states.) Other parishes making up the Greater Baton Rouge area include Ascension, East Feliciana, Iberville, Livingston, Point Coupee, St. Helena, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana. Each has it’s own unique history and cultural flavor.

Louisiana has some of the best food in the country. Crawfish boils are as common an occurrence among family, friends and neighbors as are hot dog and hamburger roasts in other parts of the country. Gonzales, Louisiana is dubbed the “Jambalaya Capital of the World” and features a contest each summer to prove the point. Visitors and new residents should be careful or pounds and inches will quickly be added. | ![]() |
Some of the best health care facilities in the Gulf South are located in the Baton Rouge area. The world renowned Pennington Biomedical Research Center is also located here.
| “Sportsman’s Paradise” is Louisiana’s nickname and the Baton Rouge area has an abundance of outdoor activities. Golf courses dot the area. Hunting and fishing opportunities abound. Tour the waterways of the bayou in a wildlife preserve if you like. Each summer, balloonists converge on Baton Rouge for a week-long festival. Antebellum plantation homes are found along the Mississippi, many of which can be toured. |

This truly is a great place to live!
Oh, did I mention that Baton Rouge was the home of LSU and the 2007 BCS College Football LSU Tigers Geaux Tigers and congratulations on your win.
